About

There are all kinds of theories on the origin of the politically charged phrase “pork barrel” and all it’s derivatives.

Some folks claim it originated with plantation owners giving slaves or indentured servants a common barrel of salted pork as a reward – but being a common barrel the recipients would be forced to portion it out themselves or since it was more than likely that the masters shorted them, compete amongst themselves for the contents.  Others claim that it’s simply a reference to well, pork being a delicious thing that everyone wants.

I’m more of a subscriber to the later theory.

I’m a Washington DC area cook, political operative,  someone who enjoys a great restaurant meal,  and o  … yeah. Someone who runs out of things to describe themselves.
